About The Sunset Kings

The Sunset Kings is a six-piece indie-rock band featuring vocals, guitar, bass, drums, violin, and saxophone. Strung together with soulfully expressive vocal work, their unique style of jazz-fusion draws elements of R&B, soul, blues, pop, gypsy-jazz, prog-rock.

Based in Boston, The Sunset Kings first began during the summer of 2015 as a collaboration between singer-songwriter Allister (Star), jazz guitarist Matt (Huey), and drummer Mike. Together they set out to find other musicians who shared a vision of contributing their own styles and musical backgrounds to create an all encompassing sound, unique to the group.

What came out of their findings was a group of people who not only make music together but live together in a home where music is a business and a passion. The house later became known as The Music Factory, named after the amount of music projects happening within the house.

The engineer of the home Zach (Z$$$), Huey's brother, plays one of the most important roles by designing and producing the sound for the band’s recordings and live shows. Nick (Shag) the bass player, also brother to Huey (but not to Zach), joined the band, becoming a perfect fit from the first jam. Hannah (Poe) joined The Sunset Kings on the violin, adding an amazing orchestral touch to their sound (who doesn't like the violin?) Shortly after, saxophonist Ritchy (Maxwell) earn his place in the band after his first jam due to his classy yet hip energy inside and outside the practice room.

The band’s mission is to create a musical atmosphere fusing pop styles with other genres. The Sunset Kings hope to create a music style fit for pop yet also expanding to the regions of jazz and prog. Lyrically, Star creates a cinematic landscape and relates to people on a fundamental level, describing emotions authentically. The group’s conglomerate showcases a body of work beyond the capabilities of an individual, giving a life of commitment to their instrument and their art. The Sunset Kings’ first full-length concept album based on the title "The Ballad of Bella Fury" is set to be released in the fall of 2017.
